	To him ascribe all sin HEX canon Azazeal (pronounced Ahz-azeel) is the leader of the Grigori, throughout the millennia, he has stalked and seduced women with the goal of producing a son who will become the Messiah of the Fallen Angels and release the rest of the Grigori into the world. In the present, his attentions focus on an isolated young woman, Cassie, attending a very posh boarding school. As she comes into her powers as a witch, he draws her closer until he sacrifices her best friend, Thelma, to regain his strength. Using the boy she has a crush on, he succeeds in possessing Cassie and ultimately seducing her. When she discovers she's pregnant, she tries to have it terminated, but Azazeal persuades the doctor to save the baby. A new student arrives, and it quickly becomes known that Ella Dee is not a typical seventeen year old. In fact, she is a 445 year old witch and an Annointed One who's mission is to kill Azazeal's child. She has done this before, always killing the mother before the infant can be born. This time she was too late. She persuades Cassie to take the baby, Malachi, from Azazeal so he can be sacrificed. Hunting her down, Azazeal becomes trapped in a ring of Power, giving Cassie, Ella, and Thelma time to get to the church; however he breaks free, and tries to persuade Cassie not to harm her child. Just as Ella is about to stab Malachi, Cassie throws herself over him and is killed instead. With Malachi in danger, Azazeal takes action to deal with Ella once and for all. A new teacher and priest arrives at the school, Father Jez Heriot, and is quickly popular with the kids. He is, in fact, one of the Nephilim, the fallen angel Remiel. Treating Ella with St. John's Wort, he neutralizes her powers and they send her mad. Ella is sectioned and put into a mental hospital where she is treated solely by Perie, a faery. Thelma and Leon, Ella's boyfriend, mount a rescue and must prevent Ella from dying a natural death from old age (which has caught up with her). Perie attempts to stop them, but a renewed Ella kills her. Back at the school, with Malachi there on his first day, she defeats and kills Remiel, hanging his body in the church to make it look like the priest committed suicide. Azazeal says farewell to Ella, saying that he's been told to no longer look after his son. Their emnity is at an end, but he tells her that she and Malachi are a perfect fit and meant to be together. These first seeds of desire planted, Malachi's welfare falls into the hands of Mephistopheles who works behind the scenes to bring this about. The other side are not so happy by this turn of events and the Archangel Raphael is sent to warn Ella (and later enlist Leon's help) her job is to kill Malachi. The Book of Enoch and other writings In biblical Apocrypha, the fallen angels referred to in Hex as the Nephilim were in fact called the Grigori, or "Watchers." It is most likely the difference in spelling of Azazeal/Azazel and the change to Nephilim from Grigori in "HEX" were done for aesthetic reasons, though this has not been officially confirmed. "Azaz" as in Azazel means strength, so the name Azazel can refer to strength of God. But the sense in which it is used most-probably means impudent (showing strength towards) which comes out as arrogant to God. "And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways." God commands Raphael to imprison Azâzêl: "the Lord said to Raphael: 'Bind Azâzêl hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dûdâêl (Gods Kettle/Crucible/Cauldron), and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azâzêl: to him ascribe all sin." "And to Gabriel said the Lord: 'Proceed against the biters and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle." Roleplaying As I write him, Azazeal is loosely set sometime after he departs from HEX canon with Malachi all but grown into his powers. He has become involved with fannyfae, believing he instructed her in how to resurrect her dead husband all_forme, and as such has taken a very great interest in their youngest daughter, faedefrance, with whom he intends to eventually put into action his "Great Undertaking". This has caught the interest and the ire of the ex-Lord of Hell himself fallen_1, his best demon hells_best, and his big brother, the (fallen) angel favourite_1.
